Spooky Spider Craft

Halloween is just around the corner! We can’t wait to carve into our pumpkins and decorate the house, inside and out. Here is an easy, spooktacular craft you can do with the kids to get everyone into the Halloween spirit.

Supplies needed: black rocks, black pipe cleaners, metallic marker and black tape

Box Play for Kids Spooky Spider Craft

Twist 4 pipe cleaners together to make legs.

Take a black rock (we had some left over from a floral arrangement…gotta love repurposing things) and use black tape to secure the pipe cleaners under the rock. Bend pipe cleaners as needed to create spider legs.Box Play for Kids Spooky Spider CraftDraw in eyes and mouth with metallic pen. Be creative and have fun making silly or scary faces!

These little critters are so cute I might keep them all year round as paperweights. Right?!

Moo + Zoo = Earth Day Fun

Earth Day at Phx Zoo

We created a custom mini cow sticker for Dairy Council of Arizona repurposing 1000 half pint Shamrock Farms milk cartons (school size). The craft activity took place at the Phoenix Zoo during their Earth Day event presented by SRP. Although we couldn’t make the event, we were told the kids LOVED them!

Happy Easter, Everybunny!

We partnered up with Bashas’ Supermarkets, our hometown grocer, for the 4th Annual Easter Festival at The Wigwam Resort hosted by Hickman’s Family Farms.  We created custom bunny ear stickers that repurposed hundreds of recycled toilet paper rolls. The ears were a huge hit!

Box Play for Kids Nordstom Event

Today was Super Saturday at Nordstrom Scottsdale Fashion Square and we were thrilled to be invited to craft with the kids. We repurposed empty toilet paper rolls into Sharks, Octopuses and Footballs with our ecofriendly recycling craft stickers. They make the perfect stocking stuffers and are light-weight, battery-free, noise-free travel toys – a creative and inexpensive way to engage and occupy the kids during the holidays! Saddle Up! It’s Time for a Kickin’ Cowboy Party.

Howdy! Our little friend Dominic is turning 4 and we’ve put together ideas for his cowboy themed birthday party.

We always like to create a focal point for our table design and build out. Our overall color palette for the party is blue and red. We used three of our Red Barn stickers that repurpose cereal boxes. We made horse cupcake toppers and placed them in the foreground to create a corral. I’m madly in love with this Mexican blanket on the diagonally – so vibrant and festive!

Each guest receives this customized party favor – cowboy hat, our Cow sticker wrapped in a blue bandana and a sheriff star. Yeehaw!

BPFK Cowboy Party Favors

We always like to have at least one simple DIY craft activity for the kids and parents. This time, we made cowboy mustaches using popsicle sticks and black construction paper.

We made cowboy beans and corn on the cob for some yummy grub.

The kids went wild for these cupcakes.

We recycled an Amazon box into horseshoes by cutting out the shapes and covering them with shiny silver duct tape – kid-friendly, light-weight and 100% fun!

A Sea of Fun

Our favorite twins are turning 1! Their parents decided on an Under The Sea party theme and asked if we would put together some goody bags for their little guests. We were all over it!!!

BPFK Under The Sea Party 2013

We also provided some additional fun party ideas they could implement since they are back East and we are in Arizona.

First off, we started with a fun centerpiece using a large rope wrapped hurricane candle holder from Cost Plus World Market. We placed baby blue tissue paper to create a water effect and placed our orange octopus in the center for a burst of color.

We then stuffed each goody bag with our Box Play for Kids eco-friendly shark and turtle stickers – the perfect party favors. To personalize the bags, we had Asher and Jack (with the help of mom and dad of course) each create a hand print and together the two hand prints made one cute DIY crab that was printed on label stock and applied to the bags.

We customized the white paper ice cream cups by stamping them with anchors to go along with the maritime theme.

Aren’t the boys ADORABLE in their matching straw hats? Perfect attire. The cuteness overload makes me (almost) want to have another baby.

Asher and Jack, we wish you nothing but love, happiness and good health. You are two very lucky boys because your parents ROCK!!!

Sandy Salvaging

Taking a last beach vacation with the kids before summer is over? At Box Play for Kids we’re all about reusing and recycling so here’s a handy sandy salvaging idea for some inexpensive fun in the sun. Make a sandcastle using recycled plastic food containers.

IMG_3754

Instead of buying new buckets and shovels, just save (and rinse) your yogurt cups and plastic food packaging in the days leading up to your trip. All the cups and lids shown above fit into the largest container for compact storage. We even brought along some of our favorite Box Play for Kids travel companions. Our octopus and shark stickers make for perfect beach toys.

IMG_3776 Ok…so maybe our sandcastle looks more like a sand village, but we still had fun.

IMG_3765

And Ollie the octopus is feeling right at home.

My favorite part of this sandy project: easy clean up. No need to rinse out sandy buckets and lug them home. Just find a recycle bin on the beach as you’re leaving and you’ll have one less thing to pack in your suitcase.

Kidsfest! Hamptons 2013 Benefiting Free Arts NYC

We were thrilled to be a part of Kidsfest! Hamptons held on August 3rd. Free Arts NYC welcomed over 200 parents and children to their 2nd Annual Kidsfest Hamptons event where families enjoyed an afternoon of music, decorating t-shirts, creating sock puppets, playing Gaga and more! All event proceeds directly benefited Free Arts NYC arts mentoring and education programs. Big thanks to Free Arts NYC board member and actress, Kelly Rutherford, for supporting our brand and getting us connected with this great event!
