Summer Poetry for Kids

We just returned from a week long vacation in California. The ocean is so therapeutic, not to mention a whole lot of fun for the entire family!  I came across this great post by Playful Learning on Summer Acrostic Poetry.  It was the perfect creative activity to do with our daughter after a long, hard day at the beach :-) . It captured some very sweet moments we won’t forget.

We also never travel without our little friend Oscar the Octopus. TP rolls are available in every hotel, vacation home and camp site!

Hope you’re enjoying your summer. xo

Happy Easter, Everybunny!

We partnered up with Bashas’ Supermarkets, our hometown grocer, for the 4th Annual Easter Festival at The Wigwam Resort hosted by Hickman’s Family Farms.  We created custom bunny ear stickers that repurposed hundreds of recycled toilet paper rolls. The ears were a huge hit!

Recycling Leprechaun Craft

Of course “green” is our favorite color! Here’s a fun St. Patrick’s Day craft you can do with your wee ones. We are going to repurpose a paper towel roll and a leftover white cup from our Ice Cream Social party into a leprechaun beard and hat.

HOW TO MAKE A LEPRECHAUN BEARD AND HAT

Supplies needed: Empty paper towel roll, green construction paper, orange and green ribbon or string, scissors, hole punch, glue, paint brush and orange paint.

Box Play for Kids St. Patricks Craft_supplies

Step 1:
Cut paper towel in half lengthwise and then again to open it up. Cut several vertical strips to create a beard shape. Next, cut a mouth opening and punch two holes at each corner for the ribbon.

Step 2: Paint cardboard tube/beard orange and set aside to dry.

Step 3:
Next, cut green construction paper into one strip and a circle for the top of the leprechaun hat. Glue paper onto white recycled cup.

Step 4: Punch two holes at the top of the cup for string.

Tip: After orange paint dries on paper towel roll, we wrapped it around a rolling pin to get the beard to re-curl.

Saddle Up! It’s Time for a Kickin’ Cowboy Party.

Howdy! Our little friend Dominic is turning 4 and we’ve put together ideas for his cowboy themed birthday party.

We always like to create a focal point for our table design and build out. Our overall color palette for the party is blue and red. We used three of our Red Barn stickers that repurpose cereal boxes. We made horse cupcake toppers and placed them in the foreground to create a corral. I’m madly in love with this Mexican blanket on the diagonally – so vibrant and festive!

Each guest receives this customized party favor – cowboy hat, our Cow sticker wrapped in a blue bandana and a sheriff star. Yeehaw!

BPFK Cowboy Party Favors

We always like to have at least one simple DIY craft activity for the kids and parents. This time, we made cowboy mustaches using popsicle sticks and black construction paper.

We made cowboy beans and corn on the cob for some yummy grub.

The kids went wild for these cupcakes.

We recycled an Amazon box into horseshoes by cutting out the shapes and covering them with shiny silver duct tape – kid-friendly, light-weight and 100% fun!

Ghoulish Girly-Girl Party

Pink and black is the new orange and black! This year, we put together a unique take on your typical Halloween party theme – we combined scary and pretty. And boy girl, is it ever memorable.

BPFK Halloween Pink HousesWe started by creating a centerpiece for our table from a row of pretty Pink Haunted Houses made with our eco-friendly, recycling craft stickers. All you need are three empty milk cartons and our Pink House stickers to begin building your party table. We repurposed shimmery fabric to give the illusion of a foggy night. We purchased wooden black trees to create a creepy, yet idyllic tree-lined street. From our central theme, we pulled together other elements to make this an unforgettable Halloween.BPFK Halloween Party Place SettingEach guest is greeted with a personalized place setting. BPFK Pumpkin SandwichesWe made pumpkin-shaped PBJ sandwiches with celery tops. I bet even my little one would be open to trying celery now.

Halloween Pink Houses CakeIt wouldn’t be a celebration without a yummy cake. We picked up this beauty at Tammie Coe Cakes – a bakery up the street from our house.

BPFK Halloween CarrotsWe served up healthy orange snacks. (Sorry, no Cheetos at this party.)

BPFK Mummies Utensil HoldersAs always, at Box Play for Kids, we like to repurpose recyclables whenever possible. These adorable mummy napkin rings can be made with empty toilet paper rolls, wiggly eyes, some gauze and a dab of glue.

BPFK Pink Spider StrawsWe found pink and white polka dot paper straws and embellished them with miniature spiders. We also found a pretty pink and silver ribbon to trim the tops of the black paper cups. It’s all in the details!

Here’s a quick recap of all the fun. Happy Halloween!

Nordstrom, Here We Come!

We are so thrilled and proud to have Nordstrom as our very first national retailer. It has been a year in the making. I’m pretty sure my giddy enthusiasm scared the sweet, unsuspecting UPS man who showed up to pick up our shipment.

Favorite Finds at NY NOW 2013

Last week I attended NY NOW which is one of my favorite trade shows all year. Not only do you get to showcase your product line to great buyers from around the world, you also get the chance to spend four fun-filled days making new friends with the other exhibitors. It’s always inspiring and every bit entertaining. And, another great perk is being able to scope out all the cool new products in the Baby & Child section. Below are a few of my favorite finds:NYNOW_ElectrikKidz

Electrik Kids, the brand that makes you want to make babies!” I love that description.
They won the Best New Product in the Apparel category for this darling Japanese-inspired mermaid gown. Congrats Christian and Ariane!

NYNOW_3sprouts

3 Sprouts was created by 3 friends who share a love of babies and an appreciation for unique and modern products. I was obsessed with this whimsical, over-sized Raccoon storage bin and had to have it along with the Camel. Thanks, Amit, for saving them for me!

NYNOW_HomeGrownBooks

Home Grown Books combine simple language and interesting subjects to honor kids’ intelligence and create a successful reading experience. Engaging for parents and children alike, the book sets encourage creativity and confidence in the earliest reader. We are proud owners of The Play Set by Cecile Dyer and The Adventuring Set by Case Jernigan. I really enjoyed talking with Kyla Ryman, Founder, who is a reading specialist and advocate of organic learning for young children.

NYNOW_Lollacup

Lollacups are innovative infant/toddler straw sippy cups that are BPA-free and made in the USA. Yay! The product line is adorable. The packaging is perfect. And the masterminds behind this great brand are super, super sweet and I’m honored to call them my friends. Mark and Hanna are a Shark Tank success story!

NYNOW_Lille Huset

Lille Huset is a collection of doll houses and play things to inspire the next generation of makers. The portable, cardboard doll house makes the perfect travel toy. I can’t wait to take them on our next road trip. I featured some of our other favorite travel toys earlier and I would definitely add this one to the list!

Back-To-School Bash

It’s back-to-school season and we’re kicking off this academic year with a little celebration. We picked up some fresh school supplies, some new books, and some healthy red apples to gear up for class. But what’s a party without favors and what’s a back-to-school bash without some educational fun? Just have the kiddos bring a clean empty milk carton from home, stick-on our appropriately-themed, BPFK school bus stickers, and let the good times roll. You can even squeeze in a quick lesson about the importance of recycling.
BPFK_Back-to-School_2013_sm

All of our stickers are printed on 100% recycled, uncoated paper so don’t be afraid to let your little pupils customize their new toys with markers or crayons. Another idea: Help your kiddo write his name neatly and this yellow bus becomes the perfect desk name tag.
