Favorite Finds at NY NOW 2013

Last week I attended NY NOW which is one of my favorite trade shows all year. Not only do you get to showcase your product line to great buyers from around the world, you also get the chance to spend four fun-filled days making new friends with the other exhibitors. It’s always inspiring and every bit entertaining. And, another great perk is being able to scope out all the cool new products in the Baby & Child section. Below are a few of my favorite finds:NYNOW_ElectrikKidz

Electrik Kids, the brand that makes you want to make babies!” I love that description.
They won the Best New Product in the Apparel category for this darling Japanese-inspired mermaid gown. Congrats Christian and Ariane!

NYNOW_3sprouts

3 Sprouts was created by 3 friends who share a love of babies and an appreciation for unique and modern products. I was obsessed with this whimsical, over-sized Raccoon storage bin and had to have it along with the Camel. Thanks, Amit, for saving them for me!

NYNOW_HomeGrownBooks

Home Grown Books combine simple language and interesting subjects to honor kids’ intelligence and create a successful reading experience. Engaging for parents and children alike, the book sets encourage creativity and confidence in the earliest reader. We are proud owners of The Play Set by Cecile Dyer and The Adventuring Set by Case Jernigan. I really enjoyed talking with Kyla Ryman, Founder, who is a reading specialist and advocate of organic learning for young children.

NYNOW_Lollacup

Lollacups are innovative infant/toddler straw sippy cups that are BPA-free and made in the USA. Yay! The product line is adorable. The packaging is perfect. And the masterminds behind this great brand are super, super sweet and I’m honored to call them my friends. Mark and Hanna are a Shark Tank success story!

NYNOW_Lille Huset

Lille Huset is a collection of doll houses and play things to inspire the next generation of makers. The portable, cardboard doll house makes the perfect travel toy. I can’t wait to take them on our next road trip. I featured some of our other favorite travel toys earlier and I would definitely add this one to the list!

Summer Reading – Top 5

IMG_0713With school out for summer, I thought I would pick up some new books to read with my 4-year-old. Great for bedtime, perfect for a lazy summer afternoon, and, of course, the best way to gear up for kindergarten – here are Chloe’s (and Mommy’s) new favorite books.

The Snail and the Whale
A sweet story about an unlikely pair of friends – a snail that wants to see the world and a whale that is sure glad he met a snail. With its roll-off-the-tongue rhymes, this book is sure to lull your little one to sleep.

My Granny Went to the Market
Work on counting skills while following Granny’s adventures around the world. And this is another fun rhyming book, complete with bright and colorful illustrations.

Flora and the Flamingo
Although this book is wordless, it’s beautifully illustrated and has some fun interactive flaps. This is a great book if you have an imaginative child who doesn’t quite know how to read yet. My little one had so much fun looking at the pictures and telling me all about Flora and her friend, the flamingo.

The Pout-Pout Fish
A light-hearted book that is sure to put a smile on everyone’s face. The sing-songy, rhyming words and repetitive verses will have your little one reciting this story with you in no time.

Enemy Pie
While this story initially seems to suggest an icky recipe for warding off enemies, stick with it and you and your little one will be in for a super sweet lesson about friendship.

NY International Gift Fair 2012

Box Play for Kids is headed to New York! We will be at the NY International Gift Fair (NYIGF) on August 19-22. If you’re headed that way, too, find us at booth #5918.
Here’s a peek at our online catalog for the show.
As if attending the show wasn’t awesome enough, we’re also one of seven finalists for the Eco Choice Award in the “Most Sellable” category. We would be honored if you would take a minute and vote for BPFK here. The last day to vote is TOMORROW – Wednesday, August 8.
