Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Party

It’s time to celebrate National Piano Month with our very own Piano stickers (which also happen to be one of our most popular styles).

As we were prepping for the photo shoot, our 5-year-old had the best idea…”Why not paint the egg cartons black so they look like real pianos, Mommy?” Brilliant!  So the first thing we did was paint 10 recycled egg cartons black, then we applied our Piano stickers. Wow, what a difference…our pianos really popped!Box Play for Kids Piano PartyWe printed 10 copies of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on aged paper then rolled up each music sheet and tied them with a gold string. We found wooden stars at the craft store and painted them a metallic gold. And added some colorful, festive balloons to match the music notes.

Box Play for Kids Piano PartyBox Play for Kids Piano PartyWe then created Mozart face masks. We assumed Mozart was the composer of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. But after a little bit of research, discovered he did not actually compose the famous tune. It’s an old French melody titled “Ah! Vous Dirai-Je, Maman” (“Shall I tell you, Mother?”) However, at age 25, Mozart did compose a set of 12 improvisations on “Ah! Vous Dirai-Je, Maman.” The kids loved the masks so we kept them in the mix anyway.

As always, it’s not a party without great (classical) music and yummy treats. We continued with the black and white theme and had our local bakery make these star cookies.

Now Boarding: Aviation Themed Kids Party

National Aviation Day is a week away, so we put together these aviation party ideas to guarantee “frequent flier smiles”.

Box Play for Kids Aviation Party Pack

The Decór
We simplified our center table decór by limiting our color palette to red, white and blue pulled from our Airplane stickers. Instead of a traditional table, we used our vintage trunk to give the party a cool retro vibe. The globe gives you a dominant blue, while the adorable miniature stacked suitcases give you a bold pop of red.

Party Activities
It’s always a great idea to have a few fun party activities to keep the kids busy and entertained. Why not encourage their sense of adventure and creativity by repurposing toilet paper rolls into DIY airplanes. (Be sure adults are around during the craft to assist the kids with creating two slits for the popsicle stick.) And for more fun, we picked up some blank passport books and customized them for the party – rubber stamps and all!

Yummy Treats
The red & white straws and our sky blue plates are by Susty Party. They’re colorful and compostable. We added blue star stickers to the straws to tie into our theme. Sip in style!

After a day of activities, the kids will get a kick out of these crafty airplane treats. (As if kids needed one more reason to love an ice cream sandwich.) These were a huge hit at our home – 5 year old approved! You’ll love it because they’re inexpensive and easy peasy.BPFK Airplane Ice Cream Sandwich

Just In Time: New Sticker Designs for Spring 2014

We asked our customers and teachers what they’d like to see from us next and the consensus was “Can you add more interactive components to your new sticker styles?”… and so we listened! We really appreciate all of your feedback because it definitely helps us evolve and grow.

Drum roll…

Rainbow Watches
These stickers will be packaged together (color and b+w version) and will allow the little ones to repurpose a toilet paper roll (cut in half) into fun learning tools. The kids will learn the old-school way to tell time and the colors of the rainbow – ROYGBIV! We intentionally left the minute and hour hands off so the kids can choose their favorite time of day and draw them in.

Airplane
This new sticker style will include three stickers – the airplane body and wing graphics – as well as a craft stick to create the wings. The large sticker will include dotted lines to help guide you make the cuts needed for the craft stick. (Only adults should handle exacto knife but you already know that.)

New Teacher Packs repurpose 1/2 pint school milk cartons
After testing these stickers in the classroom and at events, we decided to package them as sets of 25 since the maximum classroom size for pre-k and kindergarten is 22. The additional sets are for the teacher and/or teacher assistant and in case of any mistakes.

Frog
Optional: Once the four stickers have been applied. The kids can cut, curl and glue a tongue to the opening of the milk carton.

Bumble Bee
Optional: The kids can create antennas using black pipe cleaners and yellow mini pom poms or tooth picks and a ball of tin foil. Let their imagination buzz, buzz, buzz!

Happy Easter, Everybunny!

We partnered up with Bashas’ Supermarkets, our hometown grocer, for the 4th Annual Easter Festival at The Wigwam Resort hosted by Hickman’s Family Farms.  We created custom bunny ear stickers that repurposed hundreds of recycled toilet paper rolls. The ears were a huge hit!

Bashas’ DIY Egg Carton Spring Garden

Spring into action with the kiddos! Creating a garden is a simple family activity that is sure to please all. And, have yummy results!

Supplies needed: Bashas’ egg carton, a dozen eggshells, seeds, small spoon, pushpin, potting soil and water.

BPFK_Bashas_DIY_Garden_Supplies

Step 1: Empty eggshells. Use knife to gently crack along the tops of each egg. Thoroughly wash out each eggshell and dry. (We made delicious scrambled eggs.)

BPFK_Bashas_DIY_Garden_Step1

Step 2: Poke holes on the bottoms of each eggshell for better drainage. (hint: it may be easier doing this step while the egg is still whole – less fragile than empty shells.)

BPFK_Bashas_DIY_Garden_Step2

Step 3: Place seeds in separate containers.

BPFK_Bashas_DIY_Garden_Step3

Step 4: Using a small spoon, fill eggshell halfway with potting soil.

Step 5: Place seeds in eggshell. Kids love to help!

Step 6: Cover seeds with more potting soil and place in egg carton.

BPFK_Bashas_DIY_Garden_Step6

Step 7: Repeat 11 times.

BPFK_Bashas_DIY_Garden_Step7

Step 8: Create labels for each variety of seeds. We chose to use bamboo skewers left over from a party.

BPFK_Bashas_DIY_Garden_Step8

Step 9: Add water to each eggshell. We used about 3-4 spoonfuls to moisten the soil.

BPFK_Bashas_DIY_Garden_Step9

Done! Place egg carton on a windowsill or outside so it gets plenty of sunlight. Be sure to water regularly (Keep moist but do not over water). Depending on variety, seedlings should start to sprout in 7-10 days.

Recycling Leprechaun Craft

Of course “green” is our favorite color! Here’s a fun St. Patrick’s Day craft you can do with your wee ones. We are going to repurpose a paper towel roll and a leftover white cup from our Ice Cream Social party into a leprechaun beard and hat.

HOW TO MAKE A LEPRECHAUN BEARD AND HAT

Supplies needed: Empty paper towel roll, green construction paper, orange and green ribbon or string, scissors, hole punch, glue, paint brush and orange paint.

Box Play for Kids St. Patricks Craft_supplies

Step 1:
Cut paper towel in half lengthwise and then again to open it up. Cut several vertical strips to create a beard shape. Next, cut a mouth opening and punch two holes at each corner for the ribbon.

Sustainability Solutions Festival: It’s Time To Find A Better Way

What is sustainability? “It means different things to different people. But it affects us all – how we treat one another, our planet and our future. Sustainability is the greatest opportunity we have today to ensure we have our best possible future.”

We are so honored to be a part of the first-ever ASU Sustainability Solutions Festival held February 17-22, 2014. This fun, full-day event focused on educating, entertaining and inspiring kids and parents about sustainability was held at Arizona Science Center. How can we all reduce, reuse, recycle and innovate for a better tomorrow?

BPFK_ASU_Sustainabilty Solutions Festival

We created a custom eco-friendly binocular sticker for the event and had hundreds and hundreds of recycled toilet paper rolls on hand to upcycle and re-purpose into interactive, simple toys with hundreds of kids. I brought along my enthusiastic little helper so it made the day even more special.

Saddle Up! It’s Time for a Kickin’ Cowboy Party.

Howdy! Our little friend Dominic is turning 4 and we’ve put together ideas for his cowboy themed birthday party.

Horse illustrations from istockphoto.com.

We always like to create a focal point for our table design and build out. Our overall color palette for the party is blue and red. We used three of our Red Barn stickers that repurpose cereal boxes. We made horse cupcake toppers and placed them in the foreground to create a corral. I’m madly in love with this Mexican blanket on the diagonally – so vibrant and festive!

Each guest receives this customized party favor – cowboy hat, our Cow sticker wrapped in a blue bandana and a sheriff star. Yeehaw!

BPFK Cowboy Party Favors

We always like to have at least one simple DIY craft activity for the kids and parents. This time, we made cowboy mustaches using popsicle sticks and black construction paper.
